Slice media player launches on Kickstarter

22 Sep 2014 | Rasmus Larsen |

Slice is a media player for all your video and music files at home. It launches on Kickstarter and has currently raised Ł205,145. It runs on the XBMC software.

Slice plays your media files

Just like many others, the group behind Slice is raising money via "crowdfunding". The small media player has a built-in hard drive and a software interface based XBMC (now Kodi). The founders claim that it will eat pretty much any video file or format that you throw at it – except HEVC.

To get it running you need to first transfer your media files to the box by connecting it to a PC via USB, where it will be accessible just like any USB hard drive. Slice will then automatically add film covers and information about the movie, and you are now ready to enjoy your movie catalogue on the big screen.

Slice is built to play the media files that you already own. It has no access to streaming services such as Netflix or YouTube. However, it does support Airplay, which means that you can wirelessly push video and music from an iPhone or iPad app to the TV screen.

The player is made from aluminum and has a built-in 1 TB hard drive, but is also available with a 2 TB hard drive option. It includes a remote control, but you can also control it via an iOS and Android smartphone or tablet.

Slice has currently raised Ł205,145 with 3 days left of the Kickstarter campaign. If you want to know more about it check out Slice on Kickstarter here.
