Sony’s upcoming internet TV service is said to cost $80 for 100 TV channels. It is expected to go live in the US before year’s end on TVs as well as the PlayStation consoles.
Not as ambitious as expected
Rumors about an internet TV service from Sony have swirled for some time. Sony wants to move TV channels onto the internet to allow PlayStation and TV owners to cut the antenna cable.

But the TV service will be more expensive and less ambitious than expected. Sony had hoped to offer á la carte options to let consumers select channels, but instead TV channels will come as bundles. Sony has signed a deal with Viacom for MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon, and has held talks with Fox and Disney.
- “They had huge ambitions of breaking up the bundle and being the champion of the consumer, but they’ve had no success in doing that and they’re licking their wounds,” said one source to NY Post.
Sony’s TV service could cost as much as $80, according to New York Post. However, the $60-65 range is also in play.
The TV service is expected to launch before year’s end on Sony’s Smart TVs and PlayStation.
