Netflix added HD to iOS in October 2013, but so far 1080p has only been available on iPad. With the latest update, 1080p Netflix streaming is also coming to the iPhone 6 Plus.

It is quite remarkable to take note of the landscape. PCs are still considered much more powerful than smartphones, but most PCs are not capable of streaming Netflix in resolutions higher than 720p (because of Silverlight). On tablets and smartphones with relatively small screens, on the other hand, Netflix in 1080p is available to millions.

Netflix added 1080p streaming to Android 4.3 in July 2013, and later added 1080p to iPad in October 2013. With the release of iPhone 6 Plus, Netflix is also adding it to iPhone for the first time. On iPhone 6 and earlier iPhones Netflix maxes out at 720p.
In the iOS update, Netflix has also refreshed the user interface for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, saying; “you’ll see more titles on screen to choose from, bigger imagery, and improved performance throughout”. Furthermore, the update improves Chromecast support on iPhones and iPads.
Netflix continues to push the streaming industry forward, and was also first to offer 4K resolution to Ultra HD Smart TV earlier this year.
