LG has announced some details about its 2015 TV line-up ahead of CES. It is clear that LG will be focusing heavily on Ultra HD TV, including some with quantum dot, local dimming and more.
A lot of Ultra HD TVs
LG says that its LCD/LED models will be even thinner this coming year, calling it a new “Ultra Slim concept”. The TVs will have very thin bezels and cabinets, and the back of the TV has been designed to fit modern living rooms. The new high-end UF9500 model is seen below.
We already knew that LG will integrate webOS 2.0 in its 2015 TVs, and LG says that the new system is up to 60 percent faster. LG has also been working on improving sound in collaboration with Harman Kardon by using forward-facing speakers in some TVs. The UF9500 also has an “Auditorium Stand” and a multi-channel surround system for a better experience, LG says.
LG will focus heavily on 4K Ultra HD that is expected to enter mid-range models. LG is highlighting its ColorPrime series of TVs which use either “wide color LED” and “quantum dot” technologies to improve color reproduction. The quantum dot models can reproduce a 30 percent larger color gamut. It is unclear how many models LG intends to launch with the ColorPrime system.
LG will continue to use IPS panels in its 2015 LCD TVs but a True Black Control system offers for deeper blacks and improved contrast in select models by using local dimming LEDs. All 2015 Ultra HD TVs will also support HEVC decoding.
No details regarding the new OLED TVs have been announced yet but we will learn more about LG’s 2015 TV line-up at CES 2015 next week.
