On the first day of CES 2015, we learned that Sony will release a range of Ultra HD TVs with Android TV. We now have more details about the full line-up, including the Full HD models and a curved TV.
Details on Sony’s 2015 TV line-up
Android TV is a big theme for Sony in 2015. Every model from the 7 series W75 and up will feature Google’s new TV operating system. Sony is all-in, just like Philips is. Only three TV ranges will come without Android TV.
Another big theme is Ultra HD TV, as 50 percent of Sony’s 2015 TV ranges will come the extra pixels. The top-of-the-line X94C will also support HDR with its X-tended Dynamic Range Pro system, and both the X94C and X93C will support HD audio. All are branded as Triluminos, but it is unclear which, if any, use quantum dots to expand the color gamut.
Sony will also add a curved Ultra HD TV called S85C. We did not spot this TV at CES 2015 and Sony is clearly not focusing much on the curved format.
New Full HD ranges, including the W85C, W80C and W75C, will offer Android TV, too, in sizes from 43 up to 75 inches. Besides that, the Full HD ranges look almost unchanged from 2014, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
