Apple has begun talking to TV programmers about licensing content for a web TV service. After talks with TV providers have failed, Apple is apparently trying to cut out the middle man, according to Recode.
Cutting out the middle man
Apple has been talking to other players in the TV industry for years, but has never launched an actual TV service. It seemed that Apple had put its plans on hold, but it has now returned to the negotiating table.
This time Apple is trying to cut our the middle man. Instead of offering the full TV channel line-up that TV providers do, Apple is going straight to TV channel owners to put together “bundles of programming” with its own user interface on top, sources have told Recode. Apple has already demonstrated the TV service to select partners.
That sounds an awful lot like what Sony is trying to accomplish with PlayStation Vue.
The same rumor seems to re-appear every year, and it still sound like talks are in the early stages. However, Tim Cook continues to reiterate that Apple is very interested in the TV industry.
