You already have a select few apps such as streaming services on your Xbox One, but later this year every developer will be able to create universal apps, according to a report by The Verge.

Microsoft spoke about “universal apps” at the Xbox One launch, but so far only a select few apps have made it onto the console home screen. Developers are still waiting for Microsoft to allow apps onto the console.
That will change later this year, according to sources who spoke with The Verge. Microsoft will reportedly detail its plans at the Build developer conference in April, and will start opening up the platform this summer. By the end of the year, Microsoft will allow anyone to create apps.
Microsoft will reportedly switch to universal apps in November, which suggest that Xbox One will get Windows 10 around the same time. The change will mean that you can expect to see far more video, music and apps other apps on you console, and apps that work cross-device. Apps will even be allowed to run in the background.
The Windows 10 update for Xbox One will also improve game performance and make it possible to stream games from the console to a tablet or PC.
