Force Touch rumored for upcoming "iPhone 6s"

11 Mar 2015 | Rasmus Larsen |

Apple Watch is the first product from Apple that knows how hard you press the the screen. The technology will reportedly also appear in the next generation of the iPhone, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Force Touch and multi-touch

When Apple introduced the first iPhone, it also introduced multi-touch to the masses. Instead of the simple and unreliable touch systems that were used in other devices, multi-touch can register several touch points at the same time and is much more accurate. This is one of the secrets behind the intuitive interaction between machine and human.

With Force Touch, Apple wants to take touch technology to the next level. This technology can sense force and react accordingly, for example by using upper-case letters when pressing harder on the keyboard or by bringing up menus or additional functions in apps.

iPhone 6

Wall Street Journal claims to know that the next generation of the iPhone - presumably iPhone 6s - will incorporate Force Touch, just like the Apple Watch. The new MacBooks also use Force Touch in the new trackpad. Additionally, Force Touch has been rumored for the new, larger iPad.

WSJ also says that Apple will continue to use the 4.7 and 5.5-inch screen sizes and that the company is currently considering a pink variant of the iPhone.

The new iPhones are expected to be launched in autumn 2015.
