Apple will reportedly launch a TV service, consisting of a bundle of channels. The new TV service is expected to be unveiled at WWDC in June and launch in September, according to Wall Street Journal.
A TV channel package
The TV service will have about 25 channels, including ABC, CBS, Fox, and ESPN, but NBCUniversal channels could be excluded after the two parties have yet to reach a deal, according to industry sources. Apple is also currently in talks with Disney.
The service will be reportedly be revealed at Apple’s annual WWDC conference this June and will launch in September. It is expected to cost $30-40 dollars per month.
It will work across all iOS devices, including Apple TV, iPhone and iPad. Instead of transmitting TV channels through TV cables or satellite to a TV tuner, Apple will be using the internet, which is far more flexible as every device today is connected. Besides offering live TV channels, the service will also include the on-demand catalogues.
WSJ’s report comes shortly after Apple and HBO announced an exclusive partnership for HBO Now on Apple TV. We have of course heard all this before so take it for what it is worth.
