Samsung’s new high-end TVs are called S’UHD, and Samsung is now launching the new TVs
in the US. The flagship JS9500 that is the first to support HDR will start at $6500 dollars.
Samsung launches S’UHD TVs
We had some quality time with Samsung’s S’UHD TVs at CES. Samsung wants to take picture quality of LCD TVs to the next level by combining Ultra HD resolution with a wider color gamut and HDR (high dynamic range). You still need the content, which is non-existent right now, but it is nevertheless an important step.
Three S’UHD series will be available called JS9500, JS9000 (& a 78” JS9100), and JS8500. The JS9500 will incorporate a full-array local dimming backlight that is capable of reproducing HDR once the industry has come to agreement on a standard. That is expected to happen later this year. The JS9000 and JS8500 cannot reproduce full HDR but will be able to reproduce movies with more vibrant colors close to the DCI-P3 color gamut used in cinemas.
The three TVs will also be the first to offer the new Tizen Smart TV platform from Samsung. Tizen will offer apps, games and more, and Samsung hopes that its third try in creating a Smart TV platform will be successful.
The JS9500 starts at $6500 for a 65” model, the JS9000 starts at $3500 for a 48” model, and the JS8500 starts at $3000 for a 55” model.
The TVs have also started shipping out from select retailers to customers in the US, and prices have already dropped. For prices see JS9500 here, JS9000 here
