Netflix starts recommending Smart TVs
As part of its ”Recommended TV” program, Netflix has announced the first TVs to carry to new sticker at retail. Sony’s new Android TVs, LG’s new webOS TVs, and all Roku TVs from Hisense, Insignia, and TCL are the first ones.Netflix Recommended TVs
If you watch a lot of Netflix you probably want your TV to launch the Netflix app without delay. Netflix argues that many customers buy Smart TVs with the primary intent to watch Netflix so they will start putting stickers on the TVs that offer the best Netflix experience.
The best TVs are those that “wake up quickly, remembering where you left off, similar to how smartphones and tablets behave today”. The new Sony and Roku TVs come with a dedicated Netflix button on the remote. Netflix further says that LG’s TVs have special optimizations that make the Netflix app faster.
There are 7 criteria in total and a Smart TV must meet at least 5. The criteria are fast app launch, fast app resume, fast video playback, Netflix button, easy Netflix access, TV instant on, and latest Netflix version (the app). More information is available here.

More TVs will follow later, says Netflix. The sticker will start showing up on TVs at retail in the US very soon. The stickers are also coming to Europe later.
