20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers are the two founding studios of a new 4K movie download service that is coming to TVs and other devices later this year. We saw the service in action at CES and it now has a name; Vidity.
Vidity is a 4K movie download service
Formerly SCSA (Secure Content Storage Association), Vidity is a new 4K movie service that lets you download 4K movies in high quality. It is backed by 20th Century Fox, Warner, Universal, Samsung, LG, Western Digital, Sandisk, Dolby, DTS, Vudu, M-Go, Comcast, and others.
Samsung gave the world a glimpse into the matters at CES 2015. The M-Go app, which uses the Vidity specification, allowed you to download 4K movies onto a USB hard drive that was heavily encrypted. The 4K movies are said to be of excellent video and audio quality, but no details have been announced. At CES, HDR (high dynamic range) was also mentioned.
When you buy a 4K movie on Vidity you can download it onto a range of devices, including Smart TVs, media players, PCs, tablets, and phones. As mentioned, other movie services will be able to support the Vidity specification, so if you have already signed up, there is no need for an additional account.
The first “Vidity compatible” TVs and products will be available later this year. The service will initially be available in the US. An international roll-out is also planned; the group currently includes members from Germany, Italy, and Poland.
