Netflix will introduce its new, improved user interface for web browsers next month. The new web interface is faster and will bring the experience more in line with Netflix’s TV and tablet apps.
Netflix’s new web interface
Netflix has been working on a new user interface for web browser for some time. It will replace the current interface that has not been updated since 2011.
Some randomly-selected users are already seeing the new interface as part of Netflix’s testing, but the rest of us will have to wait a few more weeks. The new interface can be seen in the picture below. When you click on a show it will slide-down a menu below with more information, including an option to suggest similar TV shows or movies.
This also means the end of the slow popup window that Netflix is using today. FlatpanelsHD got a sneak peek at the new interface in January. Back then, Netflix told us that it is also planning new user interfaces for Smart TVs and tablets. We found the new web user interface to be significantly better.
Netflix is aiming to make “internet TV” as easy as switching on a TV channel, and hopes to eventually improve the user experience far beyond today’s TV. Netflix also recently introduced 1080p quality (was 720p) in browsers and is currently rolling out a "Recommended for Netflix" logo for Smart TVs.
