Nvidia starts selling its Shield Android TV box

We gave you the news of Nvidia Shield in March, and as promised Nvidia has now started selling the Android TV-powered game console in the US. A 500GB version has also been added to the mix.

Nvidia Shield is now available
The box is powered by Google’s Android TV operating system and powerful hardware that will make it capable of running games. On top, Nvidia has added its GRID service that streams games over the internet. The box also supports 4K streaming video.


Like other Android TV devices, Nvidia Shield will offer apps such as Netflix, YouTube, and soon HBO Now. Netflix just announced that 4K is now available on Android TV, meaning that you can enjoy it in 4K on Nvidia Shield, too. YouTube is also available in 4K.

Nvidia says that there are currently over 200 games on Android TV, and that 20 additional titles are coming exclusively to the Shield box within a few months.

Nvidia Shield is available in a 16GB version for $200 and a 500GB version for $300. It is shipping now.
