Philips unveiled most of its 2015 TVs in March, but did not detail about its new 8000 and 9000 series. The first details have now surfaced from Italian media and Philips’ own sites. 8700 is a curved TV and 8600 is flat. Both come with Ultra HD and Android TV.
Ultra HD, Android TV & better sound
The new Philips TVs with “Android TV” are still not available to buy in stores. They are expected to be released in June. The 8000 models will not be released until August/September, but we already know what to expect.

8700 is a range of curved TVs, whereas 8600 is flat. Both will be available in 55 and 65-inch sizes and are largely identical in terms of technical specifications. All of the TVs will feature Ultra HD resolution and Google’s “Android TV” operating system with apps, streaming, games, and full channel/recording capabilities. 8700 has 3-sided Ambilight and “performance sound”. 8600 has 4-sided Ambilight.

The design is ultra-minimalistic. The two-legged, polished stand makes the TVs look light and elegant. The speakers on 8600 are wireless and detachable, meaning that you can choose to mount them on the wall instead of the TV, if you like. 8600 has already received an iF Design Award and the accompanying text explains that a floor stand with built-in speakers will be made available.
The TVs will also come bundled with “premium remote” but we have no details yet.

Philips is expected to launch its 8700 and 8600 TVs at IFA 2015 in September. Philips usually unveils a high-end 9000 series at the same time but so far there are no details. However, it is expected to support HDR (high dynamic range).
