Google has updated the Play app store with better discovery options on Android TV devices. More than 600 apps are now available to download, including Doom 3: BFG Edition if you own the Nvidia Shield.
A better Play store and more apps
When you turn on your Android TV device today you will see an updated Google Play store with more categories such as “Sports Central”, “Stay Informed and “Role playing games”, and an option to browse all media apps or all games. If you do not see the update, go to the Play store, press “About” and update to version 5.5.15.
Most of the new additions are games, and the most high-profile game is certainly Doom 3: BFG Edition. However, you need the Nvidia Shield game to run Doom. No luck with the Sony, Philips or Sharp TVs, Nexus Player or Razer Forge.
Google announced several new apps at IO last week, including HBO Now+Go, CBS, Fox, Vimeo, Twitch, WWE, Qello, and Epix, but none of these services were included in this update.
