Samsung’s plans for OLED TVs are still unclear but the manufacturer assures us that they are still working on OLED technology. Its two latest OLED displays are transparent and a mirror.
Samsung still believes in OLED
The displays were exhibited for the first time at an exhibition in collaboration with jewelry company Chow Sang Sang. The plan is to use the OLED displays in stores to showcase jewelry and other products. Samsung imagines that the mirror display can also be used in homes.

Both screens are 55 inches large and even though it is not exactly the news we had hoped to hear from Samsung, it confirms that the South Korean manufacturer is still committed to and developing OLED technology. A few years ago, Samsung unveiled its first OLED TV at CES and started selling it in select markets at the same time as LG, but Samsung was not able to bring down costs and consequently had to set production plans on hold.
But Samsung still believes in OLED and in the potential of the display technology. The mirror display has a reflectance level of 75%, which is significantly higher than comparable mirror LCDs. OLED displays in mirrors can also maintain much higher picture vibrancy, says Samsung.

The transparent display similarly has much higher transmittance than transparent LCDs (45% vs. 10%), making it look almost like a glass pane. The industry believes that transparent display can be used for several things in the future, including in the home, in the car and in public spaces.
Rumor says that Samsung plans to relaunch OLED TVs in the near future, but the company has not commented on the matter.
