Sharp’s new 2015 TVs built on Google’s ‘Android TV’ platform are now shipping in the US. The UE30 is a mid-range Ultra HD TV, whereas the UH30 is a high-end Ultra HD TV with support for a wider color gamut.
Sharp’s Android TVs are shipping
Sharp is one of three TV manufacturers that has announced plans to release TVs built on Google’s Android TV operating system. Android TV offers apps, games, streaming, and TV channels in one unified interface with voice search. Android TV will also power media boxes and game consoles.
Sharp will offer 60 to 80 inch models with Android TV. The UE30 is available in 60, 70, and 80 inches with Ultra HD, a slim design, and the usual image optimization systems. By downloading apps you can stream 4K content from services such as Netflix and YouTube, and it also has HDMI 2.0 inputs for connecting future 4K players.
The UH30 is a high-end TV that is available in 70 and 80 inch sizes. In addition to what UE30 offers, it adds “Spectros”, which means it can reproduce a wider color gamut. It also has local dimming and THX certification. Both TVs support HEVC and VP9 for decoding 4K content.
