Chinese TCL has announced a new 65-inch TV with Ultra HD resolution and improved colors thanks to quantum dot technology. They believe that it can match high-end TVs from other major TV manufacturers.
A wider color gamut & more pixels
”Quantum dots” was one of the new buzzwords at CES 2015. The tiny nano particles can be used to expand the color space of a LCD display beyond the aging Rec.709 that was developed for analog CRT TVs and later used in digital flat panels TVs.
TCL says that the TV can achieve 110% of NTSC compared to 60-70% for conventional LCD TVs.
TCL is currently the largest brand in its home country of China and is trying to enter the US and Europe. At CES 2015 it unveiled a 55” LCD TV with quantum dots dubbed H9700. The new 65” model is the latest member of the H9700 range. TCL says that it is the first 65” TV to use QD Vision’s “Color IQ” technology to improve the colors.

The 65” TCL Q65H9700 also offers Ultra HD resolution, a Harmon Kardon sound system, and Smart TV features such as apps. It is available in China now and will launch in other regions soon. No pricing details were announced.
