Sony has announced a new PlayStation 4 with a larger 1TB hard drive and lower power consumption. It will launch in the US, Europe and Asia very soon.
PlayStation 4 with 1TB storage
Sony has named it "PlayStation 4 Ultimate Player Edition". The biggest change is a doubling of the storage capacity from 500GB to 1TB. The extra capacity can be used for installing games that continue to take up more gigabytes with every release.
The new PlayStation 4 is also 10 percent lighter. Power consumption has been reduced by 8 percent, says Sony, likely because of a more efficient processor. (update: these improvements only apply to a new 500GB version, not the 1TB version) Besides that there are no major changes. It is a bit disappointed that Sony continues to ignore “ac” standard WiFi.
Microsoft also recently launched a new 1TB Xbox One.
In March, Sony announced that 20.2 million PS4 consoles had been sold to consumers worldwide since November 2013. The new version that will be available in black or white will launch in Japan towards the end of June, followed by a launch in the US and Europe next month, confirms Sony. No pricing details were announced.
