Sony's ultra-thin X900C will start at $2500, launch in July

Sony will launch its incredibly thin X900C and X910C TVs worldwide in July. The company has announced pricing details for the US market. X900C starts at $2500 for a 55-inch model.

One of the thinnest TVs to date

Sony unveiled its ultra-thin TV at CES in January. The extremely thin TV was one of the highlights at CES and attracted its fair share of attention as Sony had managed to pack Ultra HD and Android TV into the frame.

At its thinnest point the TV is just 4.9 mm (under 0.2 inches). However, it gets thicker at the bottom. The TV will be released in two variants called X900C and X910C. The latter is a 75-inch model that is slickly thicker. Both models offer Ultra HD resolution and Sony’s Triluminos technology. There is no HDR support.

Like most other 2015 TVs from Sony, the TVs are powered by Google’s “Android TV” operating system that offers apps, streaming, music, and even games. Google Cast (Chromecast) is integrated, too, and the TVs support HEVC and VP9 decoding for 4K content, including 4K from Netflix. Other notable apps include Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, Hulu, CBS and Pandora. Sony says that PlayStation Now, its game streaming service, will launch on 2015 TVs this summer.

The new TVs are available for pre-order now and will start shipping in mid-July. X900C will cost $2500 (55”) and $4000 (65”). X910C will cost $5500 (75”).
