Google has signed one more partner for its new operating system for TVs. Grundig will start using "Android TV" in all of its next-generation Smart TVs, the company confirms.
Android in Grundig’s TVs
Sony, Philips and Sharp recently started using Android TV as the operating system for its TVs, and Grundig will soon join them. The industry hopes that Google will manage to create the first successful operating system for TVs.
Grundig was a major brand in the cathode ray TV days but is today owned by Turkish Arçelik Group. The company is already using Android in tablets and PCs, and wants to extend the partnership with the American software company to TVs. All next-generation Smart TVs from Grundig will use Android TV.
Android TV offers apps, streaming, music, games, and more. It also has built-in Google Cast – the system powering Chromecast – allowing you to push content from a phone or tablet onto the TV wirelessly. Grundig will unveil the new TVs at IFA 2015 in Berlin this September. The company says that it will also expand its Ultra HD line-up. FlatpanelsHD will be in Berlin.
