Just days after big updates for Xbox, iOS, Android TV & Roku, Plex has rolled out another significant update. This time for its “big-screen app”, which runs on Smart TVs, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
A better Plex experience on TV
The update should be available now on Smart TVs from Sony, Vizio, LG and Toshiba as well as on Sony’s PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles. There is no love for Samsung’s pre-2015 TVs yet.

The update adds a new “Plex companion” that allows you to “easily fling media from other Plex apps to the big screen”. You will need to update the Plex media server for this to work. The new update also adds “Channels” such as TED Talk and Vimeo as well as “filtering and sorting” for a better overview, including a new “unwatched” toggle. Lastly, it adds “Extras” for movie trailers and movie extras. And then the usual bug fixes and improvements.
Using Plex on Smart TVs and PlayStation still requires you to buy the Plex Pass.
