At IFA 2015, Philips has announced a range of new PC monitors, including a 27-inch 5K monitor, a 34” extra-wide curved monitor and the first PC monitor to utilize “quantum dot” technology.
New PC monitors from Philips
Philips will showcase a total of five new monitors at this year’s IFA show in Berlin. The most important addition to the line-up is probably the new 5K monitor, following in Apple and Dell’s footsteps. Philips says that the 27-inch 275P4VYKEB has a total of 5120x2880 pixels. It can reproduce sRGB and AdobeRGBm and is flicker-free. The frame has a built-in webcam and speakers.
Philips is introducing the first PC monitor with quantum dots. The 27-inch 276E6ADS uses an IPS panel and by adding tiny nano crystals, Philips can extend the color gamut to AdobeRGB in a more cost-efficient way. Philips further says that power consumption has been reduced by 25% compared to conventional wide color gamut monitors.
There is also a new 34-inch curved monitor on show. The curve combined with an extremely wide 21:9 aspect ratio can be an alternative to multi-monitor setups. The monitor is called BDM3490UC, as reported earlier.
Another new monitor is the 27-inch 275C5 with 1920x1080 pixels and a so-called “Ambiglow Plus Base”. Ambiglow creates a ring of light on and around the base that is synchronized with colors on-screen. Philips believes that the Ambiglow monitor can enhance the mood of the content you are watching, for example a game or movie. You can also choose to turn on the light when the monitor is off.
Lastly, Philips is showcasing a 24-inch monitor called 241P6EPJEB that makes use of Philips’ so-called Soft Blue technology. Philips explains; "The Philips SoftBlue display reduces eye fatigue by eliminating 90 percent of blue light at harmful wavelengths, helping to mitigate the negative impact on eyes and improve well-being. Unlike software-based approaches, the SoftBlue display works using a new technology which changes the peak of the blue-chip in the LED. It does this without detracting from color fidelity or brightness, so users can enjoy accustomed image quality without the prolonged detrimental effect of blue-light exposure.". The monitor has a 1920x1080 resolution and VGA/DVI/HDMI inputs.
Pricing details have not been announced but Philips says that the new monitors will launch in Europe before the end of 2015.
