Sony is expanding its line-up of 4K TVs with two affordable options. X80C is flat and S80C is curved. The TVs can be considered entry-level 4K models that differ from the rest of the line-up by having no support for HDR.
Sony X80C and S80C
The new X80C and S80C models will become Sony’s cheapest 4K TVs for 2015. You will still get Sony’s latest 4K picture engine and the full Android TV experience.
However, there is no support for HDR (high dynamic range). At IFA, Sony announced that all of its other 4K TVs (except X83C) will receive HDR support through a software update later this year. This also means that the new X80C and S80C leave out the Triluminos system. There is no touch remote otuer.
The Android TV experience is intact. You will have access to apps, music, channels and games through the app store. Built-in Google Cast will allow you to use the TVs just like a Chromecast. Sony is currently working on upgrading its Android TVs to version 5.1.
Sony X80C will be available in 49 and 55 inch sizes. S80C will be available in 55 and 65 inch sizes.
