Vudu starts streaming movies in 4K, HDR & Dolby Atmos

Vudu was one of the first online services to take the jump to 1080p HD and it now follows Netflix and Amazon in offering content in 4K resolution - at least if you own the new Roku 4. Vudu has also started offering Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos.

Vudu is an US-based online movie store that lets you rent or purchase movies. The company was quick to embrace 1080p HD and it is now taking the next step.

Lego movie in 4K

A total of 12 titles are available at launch, including Man of Steel and The Lego Movie, labeled “UHD” in the interface. The new higher-quality tier is available exclusively only on the new Roku 4 at launch, and is coming to Vizio’s Reference TV later this year. Vudu plans to expand availability to other devices soon.

Vudu recommends a minimum 11 Mbps internet connection for 4K streaming. The company is even offering some titles in Dolby Vision HDR (high dynamic range) but you will not be able to enjoy them on the Roku 4 since it has no support for HDR. Additionally, some titles are available with Dolby Atmos sound.

Prices start at $10 for rental and start at $25 for purchase.
