Sony’s latest game console has been a major succes for the company. Exactly two years after launch, Sony has sold 30 million consoles, making PS4 the fastest-selling PlayStation console in history.
30 million PS4 consoles sold
Sony has sold exactly 30.2 million PS4 consoles through November 22nd across 124 countries. The Japanese manufacturer is now looking forward to putting even more consoles into the hands of Christmas gift shoppers.
- ”PS4 continues to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history,” says Sony.

It became clear early on that PlayStation 4 was going to be a success. The console outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One in most markets, including USA, which has been Microsoft’s stronghold for years. Microsoft positioned its Xbox One as part game console, part TV box, but has since repositioned it as a game console first and foremost. The software giant no longer shares sales figures but the most recent estimate puts Xbox One sales at about 16 million units worldwide. The sales number has not been confirmed.
Sony recently added a new variant of the console with a larger hard drive to the line-up but has yet to deliver on its promise of 4K video support. Rumors have suggested that Sony would make it happen this year, but at this point it seems very unlikely.
