The CX series TVs are already available in Europe and are now coming to the US market. Panasonic will sell its affordable CX400 and CX420 4K TVs online and through regional retailers.
Panasonic CX400 and CX420
The two new CX series are basic 4K TVs without all the advanced features of Panasonic’s high-end models. There is no access to Firefox OS but the TVs do offer access to streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube and Pandora as well as basic USB playback functionality and WiFi.
Panasonic makes no mention of HEVC or VP9 support so you will likely need an external 4K media player. There is no mention of HDMI 2.0 either.
Ranging from 50 to 65 inch sizes with prices between $800 to $1500 US dollars, Panasonic hopes to gain a bigger retail presence in the US after some rough years following the decision to abandon plasma TVs. All TVs, except the 50”, have 120 Hz panels and direct LED.
The main difference between CX400 and CX420 is the color of the frame (black vs. matte silver). The base design is also different. For a full overview of Panasonic’s 2015 TV line-up go here.
The new TVs will be available this month from ABC Warehouse, Brandsmart U.S.A., Curacao, Electronic Express, RC Willey, and Video Only. They are already available on panasonic.com. Additional retailers will be announced later, says Panasonic.
