Google has released a big update for its Google Play Movies – the company’s online movie store – app on iOS. The app now has a new design, recommendations, and support for Airplay, which makes it possible to see your rented and purchased movies on Apple TV.
Airplay on Google Play Movies
Google’s competitor to iTunes is called “Google Play Movies & TV”. From here you can buy or rent the latest movies or TV shows in HD quality and watch them on a range of devices. It is now also possible to watch them on Apple TV.

To be clear this is not a tvOS app but instead an Airplay-enabled iOS app. This means that you have to open the app on your iPhone or iPad, find the movie you want to see and press the Airplay logo to push it to the big screen.
The update also adds HD streaming on your iPhone/iPad as well as the ability to stream movies over cellular (be aware that it eats a lot of data). The app has been redesigned and Google has added recommendations, search, and a wishlist.
The updated app has version 2.0.7910.
