LG has unveiled a range of new PC monitors that will debut in 2016. There are two new curved 34-inch 21:9 monitors and one flat 34-inch 21:9 monitor. There is also a new 4K gaming monitor with FreeSync. Several of them feature Thunderbolt 2 ports.

The new LG 34UC98 will replace this year’s 34UC97 model. It is a 34-inch curved monitor in the extra wide 21:9 aspect ratio. It uses a quality IPS panel with 3440x1440 pixel resolution. LG says that it also comes equipped with a Thunderbolt 2 port and that it has been designed to meet the needs of a “wide range of users from avid gamers to digital media professionals”. It can be seen in the photo to the right.
There is another 34-inch option with LG’s 34UC88. This is a 34-inch curved monitor in the “21:9 ultrawide” format. It has an IPS panel with 3440x1440 pixel resolution but no Thunderbolt 2 ports. On the other hand it features FreeSync, which is AMD’s adaptive frame rate system that optimizes gaming performance by ensuring that the graphics card and monitor are always in perfect sync.

A new 4K monitor named 27UD68 is designed for gaming. It has 3840x2160 pixel resolution and FreeSync. It uses a flat LCD panel but LG does not specify the type of panel or refresh rate.
LG will also introduce a flat 34-inch 21:9 monitor called 34UM88 for professionals working with graphics or photos. The extremely wide format will allow the user to view two photos side-by-side. It has an IPS panel and Thunderbolt 2.
Also debuting in 2016 is the 27-inch LG 27UD88, which is designed around USB-C technology. LG says that “the single cable gives users the ability to connect their laptops to an external monitor while also using the monitor as a power source, eliminating the need for more cables”. The 4K monitor “representing the next generation of computer connectivity”, says LG, because the USB C port can reduce the number of cables required. It has an IPS panel with support for the Rec.709 and SMPTE-C color gamuts. It can be seen in the center of the photo.
Lastly, LG will launch a 24-inch 24MP88 with an extremely thin bezel and an IPS panel. LG says that the bezel is “virtually invisible”. It is the monitor to the left in the photo.
More details will be announced at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.
