LG will bring UHD & HDR to cheaper LCD TVs in 2016
LG will bring Ultra HD resolution to more LCD TVs than ever in 2016. This year, LG will also start offering HDR (high dynamic range) support in mid-range LCD TVs. Here are LG's 2016 LCD TVs.LG's 2016 LCD line-up
LG has just unveiled its 2016 OLED TVs but the company will also offer plenty of LCD TVs in all price classes. UHD will be offered in entry-level TVs and up, and HDR will be offered in mid-range TVs and up.
This year’s LCD models are called UHxxx and will come in sizes up to 86 inches. webOS 3.0 is included in all of them. With a new processor and further software improvements, LG believes that webOS will continue to be the best TV operating system around. There are several new features in webOS 3.0 that we have reported on here.
LG says that it will use improved IPS panels with better contrast and that its “Super UHD” models (8 and 9 series) will use 200 Hz panels with a wider color gamut. Remember that you need to feed the TV with content that has been produced and released in WCG (wide color gamut) to benefit from this feature - for example the new UHD Blu-ray discs. The same is true for HDR - you need HDR content.
We have included an overview table below. You can learn more about the UH9 and UH8 “Super UHD” TVs here.
