At CES 2016, Philips has announced its first UHD Blu-ray player. Model BDP7501 is a compact player that supports all the features of the UHD Blu-ray standard, along with apps such as Netflix.
Only in the US
Philips in the US and Philips in the rest of the world is not the same company. In the US, Philips products are produced by Funai, and that is why the new UHD Blu-ray player is only coming to the US.
The BDP7501 has a compact design and naturally supports all of the features of the UHD Blu-ray standard, meaning 4K resolution, HDR (high dynamic range), BT.2020, and HDMI 2.0a. Despite its compact design, it will deliver amazing picture quality to HDR-capable TVs.
The player also comes with integrated WiFi (ac) and support for streaming apps such as Netflix and YouTube. Philips says that it supports HEVC and VP9 decoding, meaning that it can stream 4K quality from both Netflix and YouTube.
This is the third UHD Blu-ray player to be unveiled at CES, following models announced by Samsung and Panasonic.
