Besides the new DX900 and DX800 models, Panasonic will release several new mid-range Ultra HD TVs in 2016. Some of the new models will support HDR and all of them will feature Firefox OS 2.0.
Mid-range UHD TVs for 2016
Panasonic has unveiled its line-up for 2016 at Panasonic Convention in Frankfurt Germany. The line-up will include several mid-range Ultra HD TVs - and only a few HD models.
DX780 and DX750 are two design variants of the same TV. These are Panasonic’s most affordable UHD TVs with what the company calls a “Super Bright Panel” for HDR reproduction. It also includes a newly-developed HCX (Hollywood Cinema eXperience) processor.
So far, the new mid-range TVs are only confirmed for Europe. In Europe DX780 and DX750 will be equipped with a twin-tuner that allows the user to watch one broadcast while recording another or watch two broadcasts at the same time. DX780/DX750 will be available in 50, 58 and 65”.
DX700 is another new UHD TV and the successor to last year’s CX700. It claims support for HDR but it does not have the “Super Bright Panel”. It still offers support for wide color gamut and a limited form of local dimming, according to Panasonic. It is also the cheapest TV to claim support for HDR processing. DX700 will be available in 40, 50 and 58”.
DX650 is a mid-range UHD TV with a slim design. It is designed as a value-for-money Ultra HD TV without HDR processing capabilities. It will be available in 40, 49 and 55”.
DX600 will be the cheapest Ultra HD TV for 2016. It features a “Tailored design” with an adjustable pedestal. DX600 will be avaialble in 40, 49 and 55”.
All the new Panasonic UHD TVs will feature Firefox OS. Later this year, Mozilla will push out a 2.0 update with new features such as “send-to-TV” and “web apps”.
