After having skipped the 9 series LCD last year, Panasonic has announced the DX900 for 2016. The high-end TV is now available to buy in stores in Europe. This is the first “UHD Premium” certified TV.

DX900 was unveiled a few months ago at CES and is now available in Europe. Several customers who pre-ordered DX900 have already received the TV. Availability details for USA remain unclear. 

DX900 is one of Panasonic’s flagship TVs for 2016 and will represent the 9 series together with the more expensive CZ950 OLED TV. DX900 is the only LCD TV in Panasonic’s 2016 line-up that employs full-array local dimming (512 zones). In addition, it offers 4K resolution and HDR. It is the first TV on the market to pass the “UHD Premium” certification.

 
The TV offers access to apps from Netflix, YouTube, Amazon and others via the Firefox platform. It is possible to stream 4K content from several partners already and later this year it will be possible to stream HDR quality from Amazon and Netflix (YouTube not supported since it requires VP9-Profile2). The TV will be updated to Firefox OS 2.0 later this year.

Panasonic says that DX900 is available from mostly premium resellers throughout Europe. In a few weeks from now you will also be able to experience the company’s first UHD Blu-ray player hooked up to the DX900 TVs.

As a flagship TV for 2016, DX900 will have to compete with premium OLED TVs. Panasonic’s first OLED TV is still much pricier than DX900 but prices on LG’s OLED TVs have dropped considerably. Panasonic says that DX900 is its most advanced LCD TV to date.
