Software version 3.50 has been released for PlayStation 4. The biggest new feature is “Remote Play”, which allows you to play your PlayStation games on a PC or Mac at home.
Remote Play on PC and Mac
If you have a PlayStation 4 in the living room you will, as of today, be able to stream games to a PC or Mac over the home network. Sony calls it Remote Play and it offers flexibility to use your PlayStation even when others are watching TV. It also allows you to play games on other TVs in the house via a connected PC.
Remote Play requires Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Mac OS X Yosemite or Max OS X El Capitan as well as a "DualShock 4" controller connected to the PC/Mac via USB. Games are streamed in up to 720p at either 30 or 60fps. The latter will obviously provide the smoothest experience. Sony explains that it has prioritized the lowest possible lag over resolution.

When Sony announced its first Android TVs in 2015, the company promised to bring Remote Play to the TVs via an app. The app has yet to appear but with today's update there is still hope.
Today’s update will also make it possible to set your user as offline, get notifications when friend log on, plan future events for friends or groups, and to know what friends are playing right now (and the ability to join them). An update to the PlayStation app for smartphones will make it possible to schedule events from your phone.
Software v3.50 is a free 300MB update for PlayStation 4. It is available for download now.
