Panasonic’s DX900 flagship TV had already passed the “UHD Premium” certification and the company today announced that its UB900 Blu-ray player has likewise passed.
UB900 will carry UHD Premium logo
As announced yesterday, UHD Blu-ray players will soon start carrying the “UHD Premium” logo that was announced for TVs at CES 2016 in January. Panasonic has followed up to say that its UB900 is the first player to pass the test.
- ”This follows yesterday’s announcement by the UHD Alliance that it is expanding its Ultra HD Premium certification programme to also cover Ultra HD Blu-ray players and means that the UB900 has met the rigorous testing protocol set out by the UHD Alliance for Ultra HD Blu-ray players,“ said Panasonic.
As we discussed yesterday, it is not clear which criteria UHD Blu-ray players must meet to be able to carry the logo. It looks mostly like a way a way to differentiate UHD Blu-ray players from standard HD Blu-ray players.
The UHD Alliance adds that pairing a TV with a Blu-ray player, both certified for “UHD Premium”, should offer an excellent picture experience.
Panasonic says that its UB900 UBD Blu-ray player is now available in Europe for Ł650 / EUR 799. However, Amazon UK and Amazon DE are both quoting a few weeks shipping time. The package will include copies of Mad Max: Fury Road and San Andreas.
