Microsoft lowers Xbox One's price to $299

02 Jun 2016 | Rasmus Larsen |

Microsoft has officially lowered the entry price on Xbox One by $50 to $299. The move comes ahead of a rumored refresh of the Xbox One game console.

Ahead of rumored Xbox One refresh

Microsoft is rumored to unveil a new Xbox One console with larger hard drive capacity and possibly 4K video support at next week’s E3 conference.

With that in mind it makes perfect sense for the company to reduce the entry price on Xbox One to $299 from previously $349. The price reduction means that Xbox One is now cheaper than Sony’s PlayStation 4 that carries a $349 price tag.

Xbox One

When the Xbox One console launched in 2014, Microsoft sold it for $499 bundled with Kinect. The company later dropped Kinect and slashed the price to $399 to keep up with PlayStation 4 that had a significant lead over Xbox One. PlayStation 4 is still the leading console.

Xbox One is available for $299 from microsoft.com as well as third-party retailers. The 1TB Xbox One can be yours for $319. No price reduction for Europe has been announced.
