After a few months of rumors, Sony has confirmed to the Financial Times that it will will indeed launch a new, more powerful PlayStation 4 console that will support 4K resolution.
PlayStation 4 with 4K
Sony has confirmed the existence of the rumored "PS4K". However, the company will not announce it at next week’s E3 press conference. Sony wants to wait until it has more complete details to share with fans.
The man in charge of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House, did, however, confirm a few details. He says that it we be sold alongside the current version of PlayStation 4 and thus be a more expensive high-end option. The price was not revealed.
- ”We will be selling both through the life cycle,” said Andrew House, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment to Financial Times.
Andrew House also confirmed that the console will support 4K resolution and that it will have better graphics but he refrained from going into more detail about what this entails. He also downplayed fears that games will be exclusive to either one of the two and says that he expects all or the majority of games to be ready for the new high-end console at launch.
- ”All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4,” said House.
The new "PS4K" is also rumored to support HDR and better virtual reality but we will have to wait a bit longer for details.
Sony has yet to announce a release date for the new high-end PlayStation 4.
