LG's OLED TV again crowned "King of TV" in 2016 TV Shootout
For the third year in a row, LG’s OLED TV won the annual Value Electronics TV Shootout. LG G6 was voted the best-performing TV by both general attendees and expert calibrators ahead of Samsung, Sony, and Vizio LCD TVs.Third year in a row
Perhaps unsurprisingly, LG’s OLED was again crowned “King of TV” in the annual TV Shootout arranged by Value Electronics and attended by some of the top experts in the business industry. Hisense H10 and LG UH9500 were also supposed to be included but were ultimately left out. The TV Shootout organizer Robert Zohn instead brought in his Pioneer Kuro for comparison. All the TVs were calibrated.
Roughly 80 participants voted in the following categories: black quality, perceived contrast, color accuracy, moving resolution (sharpness), off-axis performance, screen uniformity, HDR/WCG as well as overall day and overall night performance.
LG’s G6 OLED won in a landslide. It bested the other TVs in all categories except “overall day”. Sony X94D won this category.

HDR and WCG make a difference
Digital Trends, who participated at the event, reports that the Pioneer Kuro that was brought in for comparison “held up fairly well” when the TVs were limited to reproducing 1080p, Rec.709, and SDR content. However, it was clear that once 4K, DCI-P3, and HDR were added to the equation, the Kuro showed its age.HDR / WCG (wide color gamut) was heavily debated at this year’s event. According to Digital Trends, general consensus “seemed to be that picture quality improvements brought about by HDR and WCG are plainly obvious and quite significant.”
FlatpanelsHD recently awarded LG’s E6 OLED our “Reference Award”. Picture quality across LG’s four 2016 OLED TVs (B6, C6, E6, and G6) should, according to LG, be more or less identical.
