Kodi (née XBMC) is software whereas Raspberry Pi is hardware. The two often go hand in hand when people want to build a cheap media center box for the living room. Kodi has now launched an official media box for Raspberry Pi.
Still a DIY project
For the project Kodi has teamed up with the company Flirc who makes accessories for the Raspberry Pi computer. The idea was to create an official box for people who wish to build their own media center solution.
The box is made from aluminum and comes equipped with four USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI output, an Ethernet port and a 3.5mm jack audio port. The box is empty, meaning that you have to purchase the Raspberry Pi board separately. This ensures flexibility as it can fit Raspberry Pi 3, 2 and B+.
The box also functions as a heat sink and comes with 4 screws for attaching the Raspberry Pi print board. Afterwards you need to install the Kodi software that will give you a full user interface on your TV with access to your movies, videos, music, podcasts, and more.
It is the classic Kodi experience with support for plug-ins.
