HDHomeRun enables users to stream TV channels and recordings to devices around the house over WiFi. The new app for Xbox One will let you watch everything on the living room TV. There are also updates for Mac, Android TV and Windows 10.
HDHomeRun on Xbox One
To use HDHomeRun you first need to purchase one of their TV tuners that typically start at around $90. Once set up, you can watch TV channels and recordings on your iOS, Android, PC and Android TV devices. And now you can add Xbox One to the list.
The HDHomeRun app has now been released for Xbox One, the company has announced. It is a “viewer” app to enjoy the content so you still need another device in the house to record/distribute the TV channels over the WiFi. You can switch channels and navigate with either the Xbox controller or Microsoft’s Xbox remote.
The app is launched shortly after Microsoft scrapped its plans to release DVR features for Xbox One.
SiliconDust, the company behind HDHomeRun, add that it has also, over the last few months, added support for Windows 10 phones, released an app for Mac OS X, and added support for 2016 Sony Android TVs (2015 TVs to be supported soon). The company also said that a recent software update to Samsung’s 2016 Smart TVs broke compatibility with its service but the two companies are working on a fix.
The app for Xbox One can be downloaded from the Windows app store.
