At IFA 2016, Acer has unveiled its latest slate of gaming monitors, 3 in total. One of them is curved and all three come with built-in "Tobii eye-tracking", says Acer.
Gaming monitors with eye tracking?
What is this Tobii eye-tracking, we hear you ask. Well, Tobii is a Swedish company that has designed technology for tracking your eyes. The company imagines that its technology can be used for various purposes, including market research, interfaces, and - yeah – gaming.
How it would be implemented in a game is up to the developer and not much is happening in this field but some games will support it, including ‘Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’, some ‘Assassin’s Creed’ games, and ‘The Division’.
The first of the three new monitors is 27” Predator Z271T with 1920x1080 resolution, a VA LCD panel, and 144 Hz refresh rate. There is also a 24.5” XB251HQT with 2560x1440 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. The last is 27” XB271HUT with 2560x1440 pixels and 165 Hz refresh rate.
The two latter models have what Acer calls “ZeroFrame”, a very slim bezel. The former is curved and the two latter are flat. All three and come with Nvidia G-Sync integrated. G-Sync is Nvidia’s flavor of an adaptive frame rate system that ensures that graphics card (Nvidia) and monitor is always in sync.
Not many other details were announced by Acer so look out for the monitors on Acer’s website.
The monitors will be exhibited at IFA 2016 in Berlin. Z271T will be available in October for €799 and XB271HUT in December for €899. Launch details were not announced for XB271HUT. No details regarding US availability were announced.
