Rumor has it that Google is planning to launch a new 4K-enabled Chromecast on October 4. The new streaming dongle will apparently double the price tag compared to the current model, and support HDR (High Dynamic Range), according to Android Police.
A more expensive 4K Chromecast
Google has already confirmed that it will host an event on October 4, and rumor has it that the company will unveil several new products, including a new Chromecast device capable of streaming video in 4K resolution.
It seems that the new dongle will not replace the current version but instead be added as a premium option, expanding the Chromecast line-up further. It will reportedly cost $69 USD compared to $39 for the current version.
One of Android Police’s sources further claims to know that the new Chromecast wills support HDR (High Dynamic Range); video with an expanded dynamic range and a wider color gamut. Today, only few streaming services offer content in 4K HDR. Netflix and Amazon are two of the most prominent but the latter is not available on Chromecast.
The official name is believed to be ‘Chromecast Ultra’.

We will know for sure when Google takes the stage on October 4.
