Twitter’s live TV ambitions have so far revolved around mostly NFL, the US presidential election, and Periscope videos. The app has only been available on a few devices but is now expanding to Android TVs and boxes.
Twitter live TV on Android
The app was already available on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Microsoft Xbox One. Now is has arrived on the Android TV platform that powers TVs from Sony, Philips, Sharp, and others as well as media boxes such as Nvidia Shield and Nexus Player.
Twitter is livestreaming all NFL Thursday Night Football games. When the company launched the service in September, it said that it would also stream select content from MLB, NBA, Bloomberg, and Periscope. A few weeks ago it offered livestreaming coverage of the US presidential election.
Users have the option to watch a feed of curated tweets side-by-side with the broadcast. No twitter account is needed.
With the expansion, twitter hopes to build a presence in livestreaming sports. The company reportedly spent $10 million to acquire the rights to NFL’s games.
