Apple's 'single sign-on' feature goes live on Apple TV and iOS
Apple has activated the new ‘single sign-on’ feature on Apple TV and iOS devices in the US. Single sign-on allows you to easily authenticate pay TV services once to log in everywhere.Apple single sign-on
The feature was supposed to be included with the release of tvOS 10 a few months ago but ended up being delayed. Apple has now activated it remotely, no need to update your software. It is supported on tvOS 10 and iOS 10 in the US.
Apple describes single sign-on like this:
- “Sign in to your cable or satellite-TV provider on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV. Then enjoy instant access to supported video apps that your pay TV subscription includes.”
The following cable/satellite providers support Apple single sign-on:
Some notable cable providers are missing from the list, including AT&T, Comcast, PS Vue, and Verizon. More will be added over time, says Apple.
To get started go to “Settings > Accounts > TV Provider.”
You can use the single sign-on feature in apps that require you to authenticate your cable TV credentials, including ABC, A&E, Bravo Now, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, E! Now, Freeform, FXNOW, Hallmark Channel Everywhere, History, Lifetime, NBC, Syfy Now, Telemundo Now, USA NOW, Watch HGTV, Watch Food Network, Watch Cooking Channel, Watch DIY, and Watch Travel Channel.
The single sign-on features is also one of the building block for Apple’s coming “TV” app, which is a kind of modern TV guide that provides you a full overview of all the content that you have access to from across apps.
