CES 2017 kicks off tomorrow in Las Vegas and FlatpanelsHD is on scene to give you all the news. We expect to see OLED from several manufacturers, Samsung’s QLED, UHD Blu-ray, TV operating systems, and much more.
CES 2017
At CES 2017, we expect Sony to release two OLED TVs, Panasonic to release a second-generation OLED, and LG to announce a full line-up of OLEDs including a ‘wallpaper OLED’. Samsung is also expected to launch its new LCD TVs under a ‘QLED’ brand.
There will be new UHD Blu-ray players, including rumored Dolby Vision capable models. LG and BenQ will launch the first HDR PC monitors, and we expect to hear more about new HDR formats, including HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma). HDR TVs will get brighter and capable of reproducing wider color gamuts.
We are also excited to hear about the latest developments in TV operating systems and streaming. Apple and Google have both entered with race with Android TV and tvOS but Samsung, LG, and others are sticking to in-house systems such as Tizen and webOS.
HDMI 2.1 looks good to go and is expected to add support for scene-by-scene dynamic metadata, which will improve HDR support.
We also expect to see several 8K TVs and hopefully lots of surprises!
