Vizio was the first company to bring out TVs powered solely by Chromecast and later in 2016 Polaroid followed suit. It appears to have been a success because in 2017 Polaroid will launch a full line-up of 43 to 75” TVs powered by Chromecast.
TVs made for streaming
More and more consumers are streaming their TV content and completely bypassing the traditional broadcast networks. Manufacturers are reacting to the trend by launching various kinds of ‘Smart TVs’. The latest trend to emerge is Chromecast-powered TVs.
These TVs do not have any user interface elements on-screen. You control everything from your smartphone or tablet by opening an app and “casting” video wirelessly to your TV screen. This works with Netflix, YouTube, HBO, Showtime, and “over 1000 other apps”.

In 2017, Polaroid will launch a full line-up of 43 to 75” TVs powered by Google’s Chromecast system. All of them will feature LCD panels, 4K resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and HDMI 2.0 ports. To be clear these TVs will not incorporate Google’s Android TV operating system, only Chromecast.
- “We’re excited to be working closely with Google to bring our first 4K UHD connected TV line to market,” said Scott W. Hardy, Polaroid President and CEO. “By teaming up with a company such as Google, we are able to offer consumers the latest in TV technology so they can easily share and enjoy their favorite content, and more importantly, deliver tremendous value to those looking to upgrade to a higher-resolution.”
Polaroid will launch TVs in 43”, 49”, 55”, and 65” sizes in “in early 2017” with prices ranging from $500-$1000. The 75” model will be available “in Q1 2017” for $2000. More information is available on polaroid.com.
