Vizio launched the 2016 E-series in mid-2016. At that time it lacked support for HDR but the company is bringing HDR10 compatibility to select E-series models through a firmware upgrade.
For select 2016 E-series TVs
If you own a 2016 Vizio E-series model be aware that the update only applies to some of the larger screens from 55” and up. Specifically the ones with full array LED backlight.

Vizio has seemingly chosen to deploy the HDR10 update only to models capable of benefitting from it. While the E-series cannot match high-end LCD TVs, the use of backlit LED and up to 12 local dimming zones will help balance the HDR picture. As we have often discussed in our reviews, using edge LED LCDs for HDR presents a number of issues.
Vizio’s 2016 M- and P-series are already compatible with HDR10 as well as Dolby Vision.
The update is rolling out to compatible 2016 E-series TVs now. Once installed, go to "Settings -> Inputs -> HDMI Color Subsampling" and enable the setting for the HDMI port that your HDR playback device is connected to.
