The Sony X800 UHD Blu-ray player that was announced on CES 2017 will hit shelves in the US in March for $300, which is more or less the same as the Xbox One S.

Sony is finally joining the UHD Blu-ray movement with the X800 player destined for the mainstream consumer market. It will go on sale next month, Sony has confirmed.
X800 will sell for $299.99 US dollars, which is more or less the same as the Xbox One S that similarly offers UHD Blu-ray capabilities. Of course, X800 is a dedicated player with some additional options but Xbox One S will soon get an upgrade to support Dolby Atmos, erasing one of X800’s current advantages.
Sony X800 will adhere to the UHD Blu-ray specification and deliver stunning 4K HDR pictures. However, Sony has opted not to support the premium Dolby Vision HDR format, despite partnering with Dolby to bring it to all of the 2017 high-end TVs as well as last year’s Z9D model.
Sony UBP-X800 is available now for pre-order in the US for $299.99. In Europe, it will sell for around Ł400 / €520 and is expected to launch in “spring 2017”.
