M9500 is Samsung’s second-generation UHD Blu-ray player. Besides offering playback of UHD Blu-ray discs, it offers the Tizen TV platform, disc-to-mobile playback, and bluetooth audio streaming.

This is the successor to last year’s K8500, which was the first UHD Blu-ray player on the market and a machine that “led the market for the entirety of 2016”, according to Samsung.

M9500 will give you the exact same picture quality as last year’s model. The player naturally conforms to the UHD Blu-ray standard but Samsung has decided not to back the Dolby Vision format, which is optional. This means that you will get 4K resolution, HDR, and a wide color gamut.

Samsung has also added new features. First and foremost, the player offers Samsung’s Tizen operating system with access to apps and more. It also includes a new Blu-ray-to-Mobile feature that allows you to stream video from the player to a mobile device. Additionally, it has bluetooth audio streaming that allows you to connect bluetooth headphones.

- “The new UBD-M9500 Blu-ray player takes performance to another level – with its integrated Smart platform that mirrors Samsung’s TV interface and can act as the hub for all entertainment needs,” the company said.

The Samsung UBD-M9500 will be available this April for $399. The old K8500 sells for $249.
